The Good English Language Learner (or GELL) community on FaceBook was accepted as an e-learning resource within the Web 2.0 ERC (European Resource Centre) mega project on SATURDAY, 9TH OF OCTOBER, 2010...
This great piece of news proves that the GELL community is a useful Web 2.0 resource "for schools, higher education and adult education" (refer to the Web 2.0 ERC site) in the European Union and beyond.
CONGRATULATIONS to the now more than 2,000+ Good English Language Learner community members (also called GELL-y/ies) on FaceBook, for helping each other to learn English in a fun but informative way. I truly believe that this is just our first recognition and there will be more to come in the future if we can keep it up!
The Web 2.0 ERC Project
"The Web 2.0 ERC European Union funded project is designed to help educators who find ICT confusing to have a simple and secure environment to use ICT in their work and in their classes. The project will also look at other Web 2.0 tools that can be used to create content, share the content and communicate."
Project Goals
"Today the ability of educators to use, create content and communicate on the Web is limited by complexity and sophistication of the offers available. Moreover many tools exist and teachers do not have time nor expertise to identify the best solution for their needs."
"Meanwhile students use and communicate easily and openly using Web 2.0 tools (blogs , wikis, social networking, etc.) and the technology gap between educators & students grows despite best efforts of national and European agencies."
"However, these tools have pedagogic value arising from sharing, communication and knowledge discovery that teachers could use to provide a more motivating, engaging, relevant and collaborative environment for students."
And now, one such tool that the mega European Union project has recognised is our own 'Good English Language Learner' community on Facebook!!!

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby
English will be the official language of the European Union rather than
German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that
English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a
5-year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".
In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will
make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in
favour of "k". This
should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the
troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like
fotograf 20% shorter.
In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted
to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkourage the removal of
double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.
Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag
is disgrasful and it should go away.
By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing
"th" with "z" and "w" with "v".
During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords
kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl
riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find
it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali
kum tru.
Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted
in ze forst plas.

Dear Madam Nurul,
As creator of the community, I must confess that YOUR continuous support contributed in no small way to our int'l recognition :o)
And my personal thanks go to a few of your students who try all they can to contribute to, and learn from, OUR GELL community.
Finally, I'm sure that the GELL community looks forward to MORE of your presence - giving advice, supporting and 'teaching' our learners on GELL.
Not bad for such a 'young' virtual community, eh? :-)
